Rainbow Counselling & Life Coaching

Sheila’s qualifications include a  Postgraduate Diploma in Integrated Counselling (Distinction) , which means that Rainbow Counselling can offer a tailored Counselling/Life Coaching/Personal Development service in the following example areas:

  • Anger & Abuse
  • Bereavement & Depression
  • Relationships & Employment Difficulties
  • Sexual Identification Problems
  • Personal Development

The above list is not exhaustive.  Counselling can also help with other areas such as  Anxiety, Adoption, Phobias, Self-Harm, Sexual dysfunction, Stress (including post traumatic stress), Victimisation, Low Confidence, Relationship difficulties  and many others, including feeling troubled and not being sure why.

Life Coaching   -  Sometime we feel that we have somehow 'lost our way' or that things seem to be grinding to a halt in our life; or maybe we're simply feeling 'bored' with life or maybe we have an idea of where we would like to be but just cannot 'get going' to get there...  A short course in Life Coaching can help us refocus.  Giving ourselves time and space to simply stop and consider our next steps with the help of a facilitator can be extremely motivating.  Life Coaching is tailored to the needs of the individual.

Sheila is trained in counselling  Relaxation Techniques  through the MindField College. If you simply wish to learn how to relax we can show you some simple relaxation techniques that you can practise at home when you need them.

For example, are you due to make a presentation or be taking a test or examination of any kind and feeling nervous?  Relaxation techniques can help you overcome those nerves

Relaxation, visualisation and the use of guided images are vital for problem solving.  When distressed people are helped to use their imaginative mind in positive, realistic ways they can access their own resources and rehearse new behaviours.  Then change happens quickly.

Visualisation and guided imagery are the most powerful psychotherapeutic skills known for calming people down and breaking the emotionally driven focused states of depression, anxiety disorders and addiction.  These techniques are also helpful for controlling pain, promoting healing, stimulating the immune response, changing behaviour and building confidence. Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)  - Sheila is qualified to Advanced Practitioner level of this revolutionary 'tapping' technique.  EFT is a universal aid to healing both emotional and physical problems based on the premise that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system.  Rhythmic tapping on the various energy circuits (linked to the Chinese Meridian points) is thought to add energy to the meridians being accessed by each tapping point and to eradicate any 'blockages' in the energy flow.  This acts to flood that meridian and neutralise any disruption which is present.  Tapping on these EFT points triggers the brain to release Serotonin into the bloodstream, which acts as a calming influence. EFT can often bring speedy relief and is something that, once taught, individuals can utilise for themselves on a personal basis in time of need throughout their lives. Sheila works within the Phoenix EFT Code of Ethics when practising her EFT work, copy of which can be seen upon request.

Matrix Reimprinting   - The disruption of the body's energy system can be traced back to a disruptive picture in our memory banks; the replacement of that negative picture with a more positive picture creates a permanent healing effect.   Becoming aware and mindful of the fact that your past, current and future pictures are influencing your life, including your physical, emotional and spiritual well-being can be extremely illuminating and helpful in bringing more positive patterns of behaviour into your life.  Matrix is another name for what quantum physicists call the Quantum Field.  Imprinting refers to the system by which humans take on the characteristics of their parents, care givers, or those we come into contact with and who have influenced our lives as we develop, by observation and imitation.  Our thoughts and behaviours become habitual patterns held in the Field. Matrix Reimprinting utilises Gary Craig's classic EFT techniques to identify, change and resolve trauma and unhelpful habitual patterns that are held in our individual 'fields' (in the Matrix).  By changing the negative information we hold in the Matrix and replacing it with more empowering images, beliefs and resources, we can change and transform our lives for the better. Taken from Karl Dawson (EFT Master) - for more information see www.matrixreimprinting.com

Please note that EFT and Matrix Reimprinting are still considered to be in experimental stages. Sheila offers these techniques as a personal performance coach and is not a qualified medical professional.  However, EFT is now recognised by NICE guidelines and as such may be suggested by medical practitioners as a therapeutic practice.

PSYCH-K  -   A PSYCH-K Balance is a process designed to create a balanced identification with both hemispheres of the cerebral cortex.  This 'whole-brain state' is ideal for reprogramming the mind with new self-enhancing beliefs, reducing unwanted stress and helping you to access your 'full response potential' in meeting life's challenges. For more information see www.psych-k.com

Couples Counselling  - When working with a couple a therapist can mediate - act as a impartial observer for both parties.  A couples' therapist will not align with either party.  It is important for the therapist to remain neutral if the therapy is to be beneficial to the couples' relationship.  The main focus for therapist interest (and intervention) is the present situation and the problems presented.  Only occasionally is the past explored, eg when it is the only path to producing change in the relationship.  However, the main emphasis throughout a couples counselling session should be the here-and-now interaction, problem solving and keeping up (or initially building) the momentum for change.

Family Therapy  - Similar to couples counselling, family therapy involves identifying unhelpful behaviour patterns and incorporating practical actions to improve communications.  The focus is on the here-and-now with a view to identifying areas for positive change and finding constructive ways for family members to better help each other.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)  - During times of mental distress the way a person sees and judges themselves and the things that happens to them alters. Things tend to become more extreme and unhelpful. This can worsen how the person feels and causes them to act in ways that keep their distress going.  CBT practitioners aim to work jointly with the person to help them begin to identify and then change their extreme thinking and unhelpful behaviour. By doing this, the result is a significant improvement in how the person feels and lives their day to day life.
